Book Description

The name of our species is incorrect. Despite the fact that sapiens consider human beings as “smart,” what humans are particularly good at is predicting the future. We are Homo Prospectus. In this e-book, authors Martin E. P. Seligman, Peter Railton, Roy F. Baumeister, and Chandra Sripada claim that predicting and analyzing future possibilities for the purpose of guiding one's thought and conduct is the fundamental component of human achievement. This is the key to human accomplishment.

The majority of the development of psychology has been guided by a model in which people's actions are thought to be influenced by both their memories of the recent past and their experiences in the present (perception and motivation). This concept is reexamined in the PDF document titled “Homo Prospectus,” which moves the attention to the future to the front and center position and opens up discussion of a new field that combines Psychology and Neuroscience.

The authors investigate the implicit mind, purposeful thought, mind-wandering, and collective (social) imagination as mechanisms through which prospection occurs. They then investigate the role that prospection plays in some of the most enduring questions that people have: Why do people worry about what might happen in the future? What exactly is the nature of intuition, and what role might it play in ethical decision-making? Do we have a choice in what we do? In human psychology, what role does the emotional system play? Does the creative process change as we get older? Existe-t-il des processus de causation communs aux différentes psychopathologies?

Homo Prospectus demonstrates, through an extraordinary convergence of research in the fields of philosophy, statistics, decision theory, psychology, and neuroscience, how human prospection fundamentally redesigns our understanding of key cognitive processes, thereby improving both individual and social functioning. In doing so, it hopes to pique the attention of academics in the fields of psychology, philosophy, and neuroscience, as well as educated members of the general public who are intrigued about what it is that makes humans who they are.

“An significant insight about how the mind works given with a stream of exciting discoveries and a method that is invigoratingly interdisciplinary.” — Steven Pinker, author of How the Mind Works and The Language Instinct as well as the Johnstone Family Professor of Psychology at Harvard University

“Taken as a whole, the chapters address a vast assortment of topics, including those that are psychological, philosophical, and neuroscientific in nature, all of which are related to prospection to varied degrees. Each chapter is stuffed to the brim with perceptive observations that contribute to the construction of the argument that prospection is a significant psychological phenomenon. As such, the volume represents a significant contribution to the scientific study of psychology. — PsycCRITIQUES

“Homo Prospectus is a revolutionary ebook that capitalizes on 21st-century fMRI studies and user-friendly philosophy to create a paradigm shift that may make the ebook the most influential psychological textbook since Skinner's Science and Human Behavior. ” “Homo Prospectus is a revolutionary ebook that capitalizes on 21st-century fMRI studies and user-friendly philosophy to create a paradigm shift. The idea of being pulled by the future, which was conceived in Homo Prospectus, as opposed to being driven by the past, as Freud and Skinner would have it, demonstrates a true paradigm shift not only for academics and doctors but also for the ordinary reader. — George E. Vaillant, a medical doctor and the author of “Triumphants of Experience.”

“One of the greatest satisfactions in the life of the mind is learning something that feels deeply true; even familiar; that we never actually thought before when an ebook articulates intuitions that we never quite knew we had.” [Citation needed] “One of the greatest satisfactions in the life of the mind is learning something that feels deeply true; even familiar; that we never actually thought before This is exactly what Homo Prospectus accomplishes… The authors are renowned thinkers in the fields of philosophy and psychology, and they are also excellent writers. This ebook demonstrates in a compelling way that quick intuitive thinking is in reality complete, complicated, and well-informed. It also applies this understanding to a variety of different domains, ranging from morality to successful aging. — Phoebe Ellsworth, Doctor of Philosophy, Frank Murphy Distinguished University Professor at the University of Michigan Law School, Professor of Psychology and Law
