Book Description
The second edition of Holt's Linear Algebra with Applications combines computational and conceptual subjects across the entirety of the text in order to better prepare students for the challenges of conceptual thinking in an abstract environment. Students are afforded more time to comprehend the material by having it presented initially in the context of Euclidean space, which is also an environment that is already comfortable to them. Because of the way this text is organized, the discussion of eigenvalues and eigenvectors can begin much sooner than in most other texts. After students have established a firm conceptual basis, the more advanced topic of abstract vector spaces is then covered.
In order to provide context and further the learner's motivation, concepts and subjects are typically supported by applications. Linear Algebra with Applications contains a great number of illustrative examples, in addition to those that are intended to explain topics, in recognition of the fact that many students learn best through observation of others. In addition, there are over 2500 tasks included in the book, which cover both computational and conceptual themes at a range of difficulty levels.
