Power; Race; and Higher Education; (PDF) is a corresponding narrative written by two academics. Kakali Bhattacharya; who is a South Asian woman who settled in the United States to pursue her graduate degrees and finally became an academic. Kent Gillen is a White man who emphasizes on completing his doctoral studies under Kakali’s direction. Kent reaches a crossroad where he has to question his sociocultural position; how he gains from a White supremacist system; even if he did not request any of the advantages or had his personal plights. Embedded in the predicaments are implications for cross-cultural qualitative research; understanding of how whiteness works; and how we pay attention to our deepest wounds as we work to become partners and build bridges.
